Katy Depot Women’s Waiting Room History
In the late nineteenth century, many train depots included separate ladies waiting rooms. These spacious, well-lit areas provided women travelers both privacy and security.
The Katy Depot’s ladies waiting room afforded an expansive panoramic view of all the bustle around the train station. Its large fireplace with its green tiled hearth and elaborately carved mantel offered warmth and style to female travelers as they awaited their connecting train. Today the room serves as a special event space for both the ladies and gentlemen.
