Historic Katy Depot

The Katy Depot signifies the importance of Sedalia in the history and development of the Missouri, Kansas & Texas Railway as well as the railroad’s importance to the history and development of Sedalia.

Constructed in 1896 at a cost of $40,000, the Katy Depot served as a train passenger station and housed division point offices until 1958. Passenger service ended that year and the depot was left mostly abandoned for the next four decades.

In 1979 the Katy Depot complex was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Twenty years later a three-year restoration completed in 2001 transformed this National Landmark Listing into a community treasure. The complex was rededicated in May 2002.

Through thoughtful design and extraordinary vision, Sedalia’s Katy Depot has borne the ravages of time, standing today as a magnificent shrine to the architectural creativity distinctive of a bygone era.
